Coloured pencils
The coloured pencils I use are Prismacolor Premier, Faber Castell Polychromos and Stabilo Softcolor pencils, all of which are artist grade pencils.
Coloured pencils are often disregarded as a fine art medium but the high quality pigments used in artists quality coloured pencils ensures superior blending and colour layering.
I use Prismacolor Premier, Faber Castell Polychromos and Stabilo Softcolor pencils in my coloured pencil work all of which are artist grade pencils. I presently have over 150 colours in my palette. A large range of colours are used for each portrait and coloured pencils allow me to create fine detail using a number of different colours of varying shades.
My coloured pencil artwork is produced on premium quality artists watercolour paper. I currently use either Saunders Waterford or Fabriano Artistico paper. Both papers are 300 gms and are a natural white with no optical brighteners. They are mould-made from 100% cotton rag with a hot-pressed surface and provide an attractive surface work on.
Although not always a good choice for black or dark coloured animals, coloured pencils allow me to produce softer, almost pastel-like work.
